InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP Garbage Disposal Review 2017

I have just moved into a new house with my family and have been looking around to buy a garbage disposal. With two young children, my wife and I wanted the best garbage disposal that can handle quite a bit of food waste. Our dog and cats cannot eat all the scraps! We also needed to buy a garbage disposal to fit in our modest-sized home.

After shopping around, we decided to take a closer look at the InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposal. InSinkErator has an excellent reputation for making some of the best garbage disposals there are. We also wanted to stick to this brand also because of the long warranties they offer on their new garbage disposal units. The Evolution Essential is no exception.

Best Features of InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP

A Powerful Motor

My wife is a keen cook and prepares most of our meals from scratch. This leaves a lot of leftover food scraps three or four times day. So our first question was, ‘’what size garbage disposal do we need?’’ We decided that a 1 HP unit was overkill, but anything less than ½ HP was too small. The ¾ HP of the medium-sized InSinkErator Evolution Essential fitted our bill.

The Essential’s induction motor is the same type as is used in other hard-working home appliances like washing machines. It has no wearable parts. The ¾ horsepower the motor pumps out is strong enough for our family of four.

What is more, the motor has InSinkErator’s Dura-Drive technology making it even more rugged and dependable for frequent use, day after day. Fingers crossed, the garbage disposal unit should not break down for a long time.

Tough Grinders

We also needed the best garbage disposal that could handle all sorts of food waste from small bones and vegetable peels to fruit rinds.
InSinkErator uses what they call MultiGrind Technology in the Evolution Essential (and all of their latest models). Without getting too technical, the grinders pulp the food waste in two stages.

First, a disc with two moveable lugs shreds the waste against the grind ring or GrindShear ring as the company calls it.

Next, the grinder forces the bits through a series of holes where a shearing motion cuts them into smaller pieces. The Tri-Action Lug system does three things – they grind, shred and flush water through the grind chamber to keep the waste moving. The resulting mush is quickly washed away and does not block up any pipes.

The unit’s grinding chamber can hold up to 40 oz. of waste, and its continuous feed means we can just keep piling in the scraps.

Soft on the Ears

After power, our next biggest must-have was quietness. With the kids, their friends and pets we did not want the loud whirring of a new garbage disposal adding to the noise!

InSinkErator makes some of the quietest garbage disposals, and the Evolution Essential is almost noiseless. So quiet in fact, you can talk without raising your voice when the disposal is switched on. This lack of noise is due to InSinkErator’s SoundSeal technology

The Evolution Essential cuts down noise by reducing vibrations and with sound muffling material.

A rubber sink mount between the waste disposal opening and the mounting bracket reduces shaking. The tailpipe mount between the garbage disposal and the drainage pipe also helps to stop vibrations.
A Quiet Collar Sink Baffle blocks noise from coming up through the sinkhole

It is one of the most silent garbage disposal units available. InSinkErator claims it is up to 42% quieter than other brands.

Easy to Install

I am handy when it comes to DIY, but the thought of putting in new garbage waste disposal with all the plumbing made me nervous. The Evolution Essential’s QuckLock sink mount takes away this worry.

Fitted to all new InSinkErator models, this system makes the Evolution Essential easy to install. Replacing an old InSinkErator is just a matter of twisting off the old unit and twisting on the Evolution Essential.

Another brand of garbage disposal not working? Just replace it with the Evolution Essential in the same way.

If you do not already have a garbage waste disposal under your sink, fitting the Evolution Essential is a bit more difficult. However, the unit’s design means just about anyone should be able to install it without hiring an expensive plumber.

All of the components you need to fit the unit come packed in the box. A practical manual gives clear, simple instructions on how to replace garbage disposals.

If you are not that strong, the Evolution Essential’s weight of just over 20 pounds may mean you need a hand to lift it into place.
It is worth noting the unit does not come with a power cord. You need to buy one separately.

Easy to Use

One of the best things I like about the InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposer is how easy it is to use. I wanted a garbage disposal that was quick and hassle-free. Just flick a switch to turn the Evolution Essential on, and the continuous feed allows you to keep putting in waste. It also has a handy rubber splashguard to stop waste splattering around the kitchen while you use it.

I was a bit worried that the children might try to stick a hand or toy into the opening hole. Happily, this best home garbage disposal has a stainless steel plug to cover the sink opening when not in use.

Built to Last

Another of the concerns I had was, will the garbage disposal rust? After all, the unit is attached to the sink and wet almost all the time. To stop corrosion, the Evolution Essential’s grinding parts and the chamber is stainless steel. This type of steel is used in surgical instruments and other tools that are always wet. It resists corrosion caused by minerals and water.

Some other brands of garbage disposals use only galvanised steel, which is more likely to rust.

A Peace of Mind Warranty

With all of these great features, what could go wrong with the InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposal? If it does, I know I will not be stuck with a useless piece of metal under the sink thanks to InSinkErator’s six-year, in home warranty.

InSinkErator will send mechanics to my home to either fix or replace the unit free if it breaks down.

Conclusion

There are many benefits of having a garbage waste disposal in your home. My wife likes to keep a clean house, and I like to think of myself as a bit of a greenie.

Putting your food waste into a garbage waste disposal rather than leaving it to rot in your bin takes away the smells and germs that a busy kitchen creates. That makes my wife happy!

Using a food waste disposal also cuts the amount of garbage taken to landfills and thus helps to reduce the production of harmful greenhouse gases. That makes me happy!

Commercial garbage disposals are becoming more and more popular because of these reasons. Amid all the brands, models, and different types the InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 HP Household Garbage Disposer stood out for us for four reasons. It is quiet, efficient, can handle some of the toughest waste, and offers trouble-free reliability. The unit is also easy to clean, easy to operate, easy to install, and easy to repair making it one of the top rated garbage disposals. It is ideal for our medium-sized family. These benefits do come at a price. The InSinkErator Evolution Essential 3/4 is not a cheap garbage disposal.

Although the unit is at the limit of our budget, we decided it was worth the money. You get what you pay for, as my wife is fond of saying. Also, our dog and cats are getting slimmer pets and now enjoy only the best bits of food waste.
